19th May - ARRIVAL OF SOLAR CAR

After spraying of paint, the solar car is being shipped to Singapore Polytechnic W10 from the Admiralty, Loyang.

15th~18th May - SPRAY PAINT

The solar car is sprayed with a layer of metallic white paint. The task is performed by workers from Admiralty and took a total of 4 days for the paint to dry.

2nd~11th - Admiralty

Admiralty is the manufacturer who helps us to produce the chassis of the solar car. Mechanical students had gone down to Admiralty for two weeks to work and assembly the mechanical parts. We tried to finish up any drilling and mechanical works that has to be done on the solar car before we spray paint to avoid any further scratches on the paint.

Located at Loyang, it is hard for the mechanical students to access to Admiralty from the school. Especially when there are two students who lived in the pioneer. Not only do they have to take a one hour MRT trip to Pasir ris, they have to take a thirty minutes bus trip and five minutes walk to reach Admiralty. In addition, the weather at admiralty is dry and stuffy and the nearest canteen is 15 minutes walk distance away.

Though the students are from mechanical engineering, throughout their two year of poly life, they had hardly touch much on the hands on work. Thus it is tough initially to get the gear of progress moving. We had gone through many scolding by Mr Foo, one of our mechanical teacher, and many dark sides of the project. For examples, the dusts given off from the working processes will irritate our skin, the holes we drilled initially for the front suspension system are not symmetric on both wheel. As a result we have to re-drill one side of the suspension system. However as we move on, gradually we gain more knowledge and experience in drilling, cutting and handling of carbon fibre. Finally, we manage to get both the front and back suspension system up, though we failed to mount up the electrical parts.
